MS Summer Reading Program

MS Summer Reading Program

Dear Parents and Students,

Reading is a lifelong skill that needs to be nurtured and practiced regularly. What better way to do this than to enjoy a great book on summer vacation!

All incoming seventh and eighth grade students will be required to read and respond to one of the works on the attached list. Students may choose from any of the books on the attached list. Go a little crazy; read more than one!!!

Books may be obtained at book stores, online, or the library. The Adams, Adams Center, Mannsville, Rodman and Flower Memorial Libraries have all been informed of this requirement.

They will either have copies of these books available or they can do an inter-library loan for novels they don’t have.

This summer reading assignment consists of the following requirements:

  • Over the summer, students will be expected to read one of the novels on the attached list.  Summer Reading Choices 2017
  • Students will also be asked to take the Accelerated Reader quiz on the novel. Good news – all of these books have Accelerated Reader quizzes, so everyone should start off the year with a few points! We have included the AR point values for each title on the list.
  • Students will complete an extended response (essay) the first week of school based on the plot of the story. Students may want to jot down notes while reading the novel so the story is fresh in his/her memory.

Remember: everyone must complete this assignment. It is NOT optional. We understand that summer is a busy time, so pace yourself and enjoy a good book.

All of this information is also available on the South Jefferson Central Website (www.spartanpride.org). During the summer months you may direct any questions to Mrs. Chrisman (evchrisman@spartanpride.org), Mrs. Robare (lrobare@spartanpride.org) or Mrs. Stone (astone@spartanpride.org). We will check our e-mails weekly to reply to any concerns you have.

Have a terrific, well-rested, and well-read summer!

Sincerely,

Tom O’Brien, Middle School Principal
Leslie Robare, Emily Chrisman, Abby Stone, 7th & 8th Grade English Teachers
